The Coat Reveal

It's done!  Here she is.

Polka dot lining!

Making a coat was FUN, you guys. I learned all sorts of things, like making bound buttonholes, removing ease from a sleeve, and using sew-in interfacing. I'm so glad I trusted my gut and changed the collar! It was a little scary taking off the old one, but it turned out exactly how I wanted. I still had one more scary step, though - finishing the bound buttonholes. They look a'ight. I just hope they hold up.

And here's the coat inside out. I actually bought the lining fabric to make a blouse, but then I decided I wanted a fun lining.

The buttons are not going to be the final buttons. I ordered some from eBay but they won't be here for a bit, so I just put some plain white ones on and I'll decide when they come. It's between these two:

I think my next project it going to be a pretty dress to wear under the coat!

  1. beautiful, i'm liking selection #2 (antiquey looking metallic edging); i think this coat would look fab with a hot pink dress underneath. donkey is distracting, but cute, don't get me wrong...

    2. I had to wear the donkey, it was election day! I am leaning towards those buttons, too. They were my first choice and as I was checking out I clicked the "view sellers other items" and saw the other buttons, so I added them to my order on a whim. So we'll see! It depends how well the color matches in person.

    1. Thanks! Isn't the donkey skirt great? My sister actually found it for me on eBay, and a lady had it custom-made in the 60's to wear while campaigning for Lyndon B. Johnson. The donkeys all have a little "LBJ" on their hip.

  3. Wow, she's a beauty and almost an exact replica of your beloved older coat! What I love about you most Amy, is that once you make a decision, you just go for it and get the job done fast. I'm so impressed!

  4. Oh how I love a polka dot lining!! It's gorgeous :) And hopefully the buttons-to-be are what you expect, just from the pictures I like the second option, but sometimes you need to see them side-by-side to know what will suit best :)

  5. Oh Amy it' soooo great. I honestly would never have considered the moire pattern before but it's super fun in that blue. I think I like the top buttons best!
